Sprinkle Some Positivity & Power on Your Resolutions!
At the age of 22, I found myself in an unexpected situation.
Some nagging health issues had snowballed into a pretty depressing reality. I had continual digestive issues, lethargic energy levels, and painful, (very) painful prostate issues.
I guess it was understandable that I wasn’t feeling very positive about my life on a day-to-day basis. I would continually ask myself “Why is this happening to me?”, and my focus was perpetually on what new thing was going wrong with my body.
It took quite a while for things to begin to shift. I came across a book called The Path of Least Resistance by Robert Fritz. To make a long story short, reading it really challenged me to alter my focus and take control of my personal health. Mr. Fritz made a strong case against the approach of “fixing” something “wrong”, and extolled the benefits of making a fundamental choice to create the outcome you desire.
Now simply reading about this didn’t magically have any benefits. I grappled intellectually with the concepts and rationale behind them. But over time, I arrived at a very powerful inflection point that altered the course of my life: I made a simple, powerful decision: “I choose to experience optimal health.”
This choice empowered me and set in motion a firm commitment. I embarked on a healing journey, and began to naturally gravitate to what was beneficial to me. It took many years, but I did achieve my goal, and in the process, I discovered one of my great purposes in life in creating STAMBA to support others.
In that spirit, I want to encourage you to incorporate some positivity and power into your New Year’s resolutions! Here are some points to consider:
Take stock of what you are grateful for right now.
Whatever you may wish to change about your life, it is so important to be content with what you have already have. You may want to write down all of the things that you are grateful for, or simply take some time each day to think about what is good and allow yourself to experience how that feels.
Turn a “negative” into a positive:
Instead of placing focus on changing something that you don’t want, turn that into a fully empowered choice that you are making to create what you do want. Here’s a straightforward example:
Replace “I want to lose 15 pounds” with “I choose to be active, filled with vitality and in the best physical condition of my life!”
In this example, your choice is positive and empowering and will help lead to making daily decisions that bring about to the awesome results of your choice.
Be compassionate with yourself!
If you have a “bad day” with regards to acting in alignment with your desired goals, let yourself slide! 99% of the time, it is not the fact that we ate or drank too much in one night out that derails us, it is the “beating up on ourselves” afterward that actually messes us up. Simply return your focus to your overarching, empowered choice, and in that way, a simple indulgence doesn’t actually take you off track at all, it actually can help you be excited about your commitment to your bigger picture choice!
I encourage you to discover the subtle but powerful distinction between making flimsy resolutions, and taking control through making inspiring and empowered choices for living your best life in 2019 and beyond.
From all of us at STAMBA, we wish you and yours a New Year filled with vibrant health, beauty and joy!
